Greetings! If you read this appeal, I understand that you are interested in our project. You were intrigued what mediation is. The answer is simple: it is an effective way of resolving conflicts.
I ‘m Demchuk Svitlana Viktorivna, the deputy director of the educational work of the secondary school №6 of the city of Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region. I head the mediator team at our institution. Our team consists of initiative, persistent, positive students and teachers.
This study room will help us to improve the efficiency of our work and get rid of our attachment to the study room and the schedule of classes. Today our room is in a regular classroom, which makes it impossible to engage in mediation in full. We need a separate study room. To do this, we need partition the hall with metal-plastic structures.
Our story is “Mediation. Peer-to-peer” began in 2015 when I attended a training course on mediation in Kyiv which was organized by the public organization “La Strada-Ukraine”. Five days of the training are the days of immersion in work, communication with interesting people, sometimes misunderstanding, but constant admiration for the new method. Since then, I and mediation are together. To say that I was carried away by it – is an understatement.. XXI century is the century of new technologies, and, consequently, modern communication. Each of us perfectly understands that living in our time means to be able to solve any conflict situations by peaceful ways. And here mediation is a helper for us. Mediation is a step towards reconciliation and a mediator is an intermediary in resolving conflicts. It was a difficult task to bring information to colleagues, students and their parents that today mediation is a modern method (restorative practice) that will come to our aid. Hooray! They believed me!
But I’m not used to stop at that. The next step towards the implementation of mediation was the realization of a dream – the opening of the School Service of Understanding (SSU). SSU is a team of trained students-mediators that help their peers to resolve conflicts peacefully using method of “peer to peer” and restorative practice such as peer mediation, the Circle of decision-making, the Circle of Reconciliation. They work to create a safe atmosphere in an educational institution. They believed me and the students- mediators too, because children are more likely to trust their problems to their peers.
This year our teachers-mediators Zemlianska O.Yu. and Goncharova A.O joined to our team. It means that our work will live for a long time.
The project “Mediation. Peer- to- peer ” will be developed and improved in the future, as far as today some students dream of linking their favorite affair with the future profession.
